Rubber Queen floor mats

Rubber Queen 70504 4 Piece Vinyl Floor Mats - Gray

I was a bit weary of getting these because the one's from Rubber Queen for 20.00 looked way too cheap and didn't look durable at all. In this photo they looked a little more durable, but I didn't read any reviews about them. So I am confirming that these mat's are very durable and weigh a good amount to keep them in place along with small spikes. They match excellent and cover almost the whole floor which is great. I didn't cut them at all, just the tab that they connect on. You can cut them down like 3 inches smaller all around, but I didn't need to and I have a 2003 Cavalier which is a medium sized car. These are well worth the price, you won't be dissappointed.

Rubber Definition

Rubber Definition

Rubber is generally defined as a material that can be stretched to at least twice its original length and that will retract rapidly and forcibly to substantially its original dimensions on release of the force

What is difference between a polymer and plastic

What is difference between a polymer and plastic

A polymer is the basic long chain molecule and is the pure molecule (linked to each other by primary, usually covalent bond). Polymers are rarely useful in themselves and are most often modified or compounded with additives (including colors) to form useful materials. The compounded product is generally termed a plastic.

Application for polymers

Application for polymers
There are five majors areas of application:
1 plastics
2 rubbers or elastomers
3 fibers (defined as an object with a length-to diameter ratio of at least 100)
4 surface finishes and protective coatings (lacquers, oil paints, oil vanish or vanish, enamel, latex paints)
5 adhesives

Best way to wash car floor mats

Best way to wash car floor mats

Washing car floor mats is not a task, but you can tear them apart real quick if you're not careful. A washing machine is not a good idea. All you need to do is take a scrub brush to them and soapy water. If they are really stained up use a multipurpose degreaser or car floor mats cleaner. Always test chemicals in an inconspicuous place before using it on the whole item. Some chemicals will take color and leave you with a bigger mess then what you had when you started. Don't forget to rinse them out real good so the chemical does stand still in your carpets, and let them dry out before you put them back or they will mold and mildew.

Silicone used for other than breast implants

Silicone used for other than breast implants

Silicone is substance found in every rock, silicone is primiraily used in construction as heavy duity adheisive. It's much like if you took a rool of seran wrap (celopaine) and turned it into a luqid, it's basically plastic.
I would venture a guess to say silicone is mined from the earth, melted out of rocks, then chemically processed to give it it's gel properties.

The biggest silicone maker is Dorcorning.

I don't think I could name 10 things it's used in but I can try:
construction caulking
celopaine
breast implants
tv's
computer chips
cars (engine computers)
... basically everything modern, it has many different forms.

Silicone Properties

Properties

Some of the most useful properties of silicone include:

  1. Good electrical insulation. Because silicone can be formulated to be electrically insulative or conductive, it is suitable for a wide range of electrical applications.
  2. Thermal stability (constancy of properties over a wide operating range of −100 to 250 °C).
  3. Though not a hydrophobe, the ability to repel water and form watertight seals.
  4. Excellent resistance to oxygen, ozone and UV light (sunlight). This has led to widespread use in the construction industry (e.g. coatings, fire protection, glazing seals), and automotive industry (external gaskets, external trim).
  5. Non-stick.
  6. Low chemical reactivity.
  7. Low toxicity, but does not support microbiological growth.
  8. High gas permeability: at room temperature (25 °C) the permeability of silicone rubber for gases like oxygen is approximately 400 times that of butyl rubber, making silicone useful for medical applications (though precluding it from applications where gas-tight seals are necessary).

Rubber Stamp

Rubber Stamp

Raw Materials

Rubber stamp manufacturers do not produce the elements that make a rubber stamp directly from raw materials. Raw materials include latex rubber, wood for the mounting blocks, adhesive-backed padding that is placed between the rubber and the block, and adhesive-backed labels. All of these items are produced by specialty manufacturers who supply them to rubber stamp makers.

NBR Rubber

NBR Rubber

The total capacity of NBR (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) in the world increased from 546.5 thousand t/a in 2004 to 566.5 thousand t/a in 2005. Major NBR producers include Lanxess of Germany, Zeon and JSR of Japan and Nitrilo Paratec Elastomers of Mexico. The total capacity in these 4 producers accounts for around 50% of the world total.

USES
Hose, belting and cable, 28 percent; O-rings and seals, 20 percent; latex applications, 14 percent; molded and extruded products, 14 percent; adhesives and sealants, 10 percent; sponges, 5 percent; footwear, 4 percent; other, 5 percent.

STRENGTH
Nitrile rubber is highly resistant to petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel oil and other fuels over a wide temperature range. NBR is also noted for high strength and excellent resistance to abrasion, water, alcohols and heat. Special forms of NBR continue to grow in importance. Powdered NBR finds widespread use in polyvinyl chloride and ABS resins as an impact modifier in such products as automotive dashboards and kick panels. Industry consolidation has strengthened the remaining suppliers and eliminated a net 12% of the installed capacity.

WEAKNESS
Only modest overall growth can be expected in nitrile rubber. With 50 percent of its end-use in automotive components, NBR is overly dependent on that cyclical industry. NBR latex has lost market share to styrene-butadiene and acrylic latex products in non-woven fabrics and some paper applications. Competition in hose and belting markets is intense, although superior oil resistance gives NBR the edge in some hose applications.

Carbon black

Carbon black is a material produced by the incomplete combustion of heavy petroleum products such as FCC tar, coal tar, ethylene cracking tar, and a small amount from vegetable oil. Carbon black is a form of amorphous carbon that has a high surface area to volume ratio, and as such it is one of the first nanomaterials to find common use, although its surface area to volume ratio is low compared to activated carbon. It is similar to soot but with a much higher surface area to volume ratio. Carbon black is used as a pigment and reinforcement in rubber and plastic products.

Common uses

The most common use [70%] of carbon black is as a pigment and reinforcing phase in automobile tires. Carbon black also helps conduct heat away from the tread and belt area of the tire, reducing thermal damage and increasing tire life. Carbon black particles are also employed in some radar absorbent materials and in printer toner.

Total production is about 8.1 million tonnes (2006) [http://www.carbon-black.org/what_is.html] . About 20% of world production goes into belts, hoses, and other non-tire rubber goods. The balance is mainly used as a pigment in inks, coatings and plastics.

Carbon black from vegetable origin is used as a food coloring, in Europe known as additive E153.

Reinforcing carbon blacks

The highest volume use of carbon black is as a reinforcing filler in rubber products, especially tires. While a pure gum vulcanizate of styrene-butadiene has a tensile strength of no more than 2.5 MPa, and almost nonexistent abrasion resistance, compounding it with 50% of its weight of carbon black improves its tensile strength and wear resistance as shown in the below table.

Practically all rubber products where tensile and abrasion wear properties are crucial use carbon black, so they are black in color. Where physical properties are important but colors other than black are desired, such as white tennis shoes, precipitated or fused silica is a decent competitor to carbon black in reinforcing ability. Silica-based fillers are also gaining market share in automotive tires because they provide better trade-off for fuel efficiency and wet handling due to a lower rolling loss compared to carbon black-filled tires. Traditionally silica fillers had worse abrasion wear properties, but the technology has gradually improved to where they can match carbon black abrasion performance.

Pigment

Carbon black (Colour Index International, PBL-7) is the name of a common black pigment, traditionally produced from charring organic materials such as wood or bone. It consists of pure elemental carbon, and it appears black because it reflects almost no light in the visible part of the spectrum. It is known by a variety of names, each of which reflects a traditional method for producing carbon black:
* Ivory black was traditionally produced by charring ivory or bones (see bone char).
* Vine black was traditionally produced by charring desiccated grape vines and stems.
* Lamp black was traditionally produced by collecting soot, also known as lampblack, from oil lamps.

Newer methods of producing carbon black have superseded these traditional sources, although some materials are still produced using traditional methods. For artisanal purposes, it is very useful.
